Event Planning Aspects: Invitation Etiquette

As you start to prepare for, and respond to events, there is bound to be a lot to consider. Whether you’re having your own party, or are invited to more than you can handle, Starshield believes these etiquette tips below will help you have a good time and help you avoid the chaos of over booking and under achieving. This list is not all inclusive, there are plenty of other things to consider but these three are quite important.

1) Set an RSVP date and whether guests can bring a friend
Planing how much food and drink to have with even a small gathering is a big feat. By setting a concrete RSVP date, you know how much your event is going to cost you, you can convey that sentiment to the venue so they are not overwhelmed and you can manage guest expectations if they miss the deadline. Having a realistic number is crucial with a bit of room in either direction for no shows and additions, but under estimating to save money while booking with your venue may seem thrifty but it’s really just shifty and unnecessary.

2) Note the food being served, and request allergy issues and preferences as applicable
Be sure to note a theme, and ask guests if there are any allergies or special considerations to note. You don’t have to accommodate every request, but this way, if you’re planning a standard buffet fora sweet 16 with chicken fingers, pasta, french fries, burgers, ect. let that be none. If your hosting a more grown event with themes such as southern barbecue you can tell you’re vegan friend (if you have any) that you’re happy to have them come but would like them to bring a dish that they can eat and share and there will surely be aspects of the catering that fit their preferences just not he entirety of the menu.

3) Always dress for the occasion
Casual, Business Casual, Well-Dressed, Costume, all white, all black; these and many more are all applicable when hosting and event and should be specified. It’s good to note the dress code for any event so that your guests will not feel out of place if they miss the mark, or if they’re coming to the event after work or another event. So much scrutiny is spent on what to wear in many instances for many people and some guests even decline the invitation if they don’t think they have a sufficient outfit to wear which may seem excessive and antisocial but is very much a thing.
