Richard, owner and operator, started DJing in 2008 while studying Information Security at Rochester Institute of Technology. Yes, the degree and the career are polar opposites — there’s a story there. After missing his first interview (because it felt sketchy), the company gave him a second chance. He quickly became one of their most-requested entertainers, and the rest is history.
Starshield Entertainment was established in November 2012, named after a symbol from Richard’s fraternity (with permission, of course). What started as a side hustle to pay off student loans turned into something much bigger. By 2026, we’ve grown to a team of 20+ entertainment professionals handling hundreds of events a year across New Jersey and the tri-state.

We’d rather hire someone who embodies the Starshield spirit and train them up than bring in someone polished who doesn’t fit the culture.
