Meet Richard.

And the Crew He Built.

Intimate, Connected

Staff & Family

In 2008, while studying Information Security at Rochester Institute of Technology, Richard saw an ad for an event DJ position. He applied, missed the first interview because something about it felt sketchy, and then — to his surprise — the company called back and gave him a second shot. He showed up the second time. Within a year, he was one of their most-requested DJs.

In November 2012, Richard launched Starshield Entertainment to pay off student loans. He named it after a symbol from his fraternity (with their permission, of course). What started as a side hustle quickly turned into something he couldn't keep doing alone.

By 2026, Starshield is a 20+ person team of full-time entertainers, hosts, photo booth attendants, and event coordinators. We handle hundreds of events a year across New Jersey, Philadelphia, and the tri-state. The student loans got paid off a long time ago.

Our values are simple:

  • No event is too big or too small — we bring the same energy to every celebration.

  • No detail is too big or too small — planning, execution, and follow-through matter.

  • No pin-drop moments, no dead air — we lead your event, keep the energy moving, and make sure the night flows from start to finish.

“We focus on pure entertainment and fun, keeping our eyes on the everyday party people while still being as accessible as possible.” — Richard

We Hire for

Personality.

We Teach Everything Else.

Starshield Staff are one of a kind

The Starshield vibe doesn't get manufactured — it gets HIRED. We look for people who can read a room, hype a crowd, think on their feet, and stay calm when things go sideways. If you've got those instincts, we'll teach you everything else. Most DJ companies bring in polished hired guns who clock in, do the gig, clock out. That's not us. Our team actually hangs out together — at the warehouse after events, at company-funded BBQs, at pool parties at Rich's house.

The energy you feel at our events exists because it exists between us, too. That matters more than you'd think. When 20+ people genuinely like each other, you get a smoother handoff between DJ and MC, faster problem-solving when a venue throws a curveball, and a backup DJ who already knows your timeline because they've been hearing about your wedding all week.

Follow our journey.
